Children Know
Children know everything.
If you look carefully,
you can see it in their eyes.
Often their wisdom quietly
slips aside unnoticed by those
calling themselves older and wiser.
Children know the actors in the play are acting.
Adults have forgotten this.
Life is serious business,
no time for trusting the inner voice.
Children know a kaleidoscope
shows rapidly changing illusions.
Adults forget the world is a kaleidoscope.
Which illusions in the play are we choosing to live today?
“Please cooperate with my illusion
so I can remain comfortable. Thank you.
If our illusions match,
I think we’ll get along. But…
promise not to pull the curtain back.”
And so it goes…
Until the kaleidoscope shatters.
Until the curtain is pulled back.
I used to think I knew truth.
Now I feel truth.
The child inside us knows.
Clear-eyed and trusting,
they know. May we learn to listen,
to never betray their trust again.
The fear evaporated as I removed the veil
between myself and my inner child..
I saw myself as I really am,
beautifully human,
perfectly imperfect.
And fell into…love,
tender, healing,
love.
